There are numerous forms of evidence and investigation work that help catch criminals. In this series, we will explore some of these, seeking to understand the major forms of evidence used to find and convict criminals and looking to comprehend the different investigative techniques used. This article will examine fingerprints.

Fingerprints are a common piece of evidence used by police to link a suspect to a crime scene. Every single person has a different set of fingerprints, aside from identical twins, making them an excellent way of determining whether a person was at a location.

Though fingerprinting has been challenged in it’s usefulness by DNA, it is still a very common and well used method by police around the world.

The first time fingerprints were used by police was in 1892 by an Argentinean police officer called Juan Vucetich and soon spread around the world. In 1902 the first murderer was caught and convicted using fingerprints and since then they have been used in cases around the world.

Whereas early on the entire fingerprint was needed to match, with the use of computers, now only a small fragment is required.

For more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit http://www.ambushsecurity.com.au.

Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Criminal’s Rules: Fingerprints is a post from Ambush SecurityFor more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit Ambush Security.Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Criminal’s Rules: Alibis

blog

Every year tens of thousands of crimes are solved, with police collaring the criminal and the judicial system locking them up. In this series, we will explore some of these, seeking to understand the major forms of evidence used to find and convict criminals and looking to comprehend the different investigative techniques used. This article will examine alibis.

Alibis are incredibly important in policing. When there has been a crime, police will have a number of potential suspects. Suspects whose names have been added to the list for a variety of reasons. Once they have their list of suspects they will begin to narrow them down. Asking the suspects what they were doing at the time of the crime is one of the first questions police will ask.

If the suspect has a solid alibi then they will be crossed off the list of suspects. If their alibi is less than convincing or is just easily questionable, they will have to do more work. They will question anyone used as part of the alibi, often a number of times in an attempt to find any flaws or holes in the alibi.

A solid alibi is a virtually bulletproof method of removing yourself from a list of suspects.

For more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit http://www.ambushsecurity.com.au.

Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Criminal’s Rules: Alibis is a post from Ambush SecurityFor more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit Ambush Security.Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Criminal’s Rules: Forensics

blog

Every year tens of thousands of crimes are solved, with police collaring the criminal and the judicial system locking them up. In this series, we will explore some of these, seeking to understand the major forms of evidence used to find and convict criminals and looking to comprehend the different investigative techniques used. This article will examine forensics.

A few short years ago, most people didn’t know much about forensics. It certainly was not seen as one of the more interesting aspects of policing. We have seen a sudden and massive shift, with the creation of an almost endless variety of TV shows that are about police forensics. Forensics is now the most popular aspect of policing because of this.

Forensics is about gathering evidence from the scene of a crime. It is scientifically focussed and requires a methodical and particular personality type. Forensics experts have a wide array of scientific tools available, from DNA through to fingerprinting. They use anything and everything that will help them work out how the crime happened and who did it.

Modern forensics is an essential aspect of policing and forensics plays a part in virtually every crime that is solved.

For more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit http://www.ambushsecurity.com.au.

Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Criminal’s Rules: Forensics is a post from Ambush SecurityFor more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit Ambush Security.Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Criminal’s Rules: Informants

blog

Every year tens of thousands of crimes are solved, with police collaring the criminal and the judicial system locking them up. In this series, we will explore some of these, seeking to understand the major forms of evidence used to find and convict criminals and looking to comprehend the different investigative techniques used. This article will examine informants.

Through their working life, police develop contacts and connections across the criminal fraternity. These relationships are a necessary and important part of policing and have helped solve numerous cases. Often the informant helps police to shorten their jail term, but they will also help for a wide variety of different reasons. There are certain types of crimes that even hardened criminals are opposed to and informants will tell police simply because they want the criminal caught just the same as any person would. There is a lot of gossip and rumour generated in prisons and police are aware of this and make the most of it by interviewing and maintaining contacts in prisons across the country.

Obviously it is very important for the police to ensure that the information gained through informants is verified as criminals are not the most trustworthy.

For more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit http://www.ambushsecurity.com.au.

Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Criminal’s Rules: Informants is a post from Ambush SecurityFor more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit Ambush Security.Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Criminal’s Rules: Records

blog

Every year tens of thousands of crimes are solved, with police collaring the criminal and the judicial system locking them up. This article will examine records.

While most police shows on TV are action packed, with gun fights and car chases, the reality is that a lot of police work involves sitting at a desk reading through records. Records often hold the key in a case as there is a such a massive amount of information out there on virtually everyone, from dental records to car ownership papers. All of these records individually are not very helpful, but when used together they can be incredibly helpful in solving crimes Police are highly skilled at connecting what appear to be random records and details, developing an overview of a crime and narrowing down suspects and motives.

The internet and computers have made this even easier and more powerful. Now the police can implement searches online and can cross reference records with ease.

For more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit http://www.ambushsecurity.com.au.

Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Criminal’s Rules: Records is a post from Ambush SecurityFor more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit Ambush Security.Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Criminal’s Rules: Proximity

blog

Every year tens of thousands of crimes are solved, with police collaring the criminal and the judicial system locking them up. This article will examine proximity.

Most criminals are lazy, they commit crimes because they cannot be bothered earning money the hard way. This means that most criminals will not go too far afield to commit their crimes. In fact, most criminals will commit crimes in their own area or as close as possible. For police, this means that proximity becomes important when investigating a crime.

Police know that most crimes are committed by local people, meaning that they have already drastically narrowed the field of potential suspects. When police first start investigating a crime they will check in on neighbours and surrounding houses as a surprising number of times, the criminals are just over the fence or across the road.

Proximity is a useful tool for the police as they are immediately able to whittle down the suspects.

For more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit http://www.ambushsecurity.com.au.

Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Criminal’s Rules: Proximity is a post from Ambush SecurityFor more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit Ambush Security.Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Criminal’s Rules: Relationships

blog

Every year tens of thousands of crimes are solved, with police collaring the criminal and the judicial system locking them up. There are numerous forms of evidence and investigation work that help catch criminals. In this series, we will explore some of these, seeking to understand the major forms of evidence used to find and convict criminals and looking to comprehend the different investigative techniques used. This article will examine relationships

It is a sad fact that many crimes are committed by people known to the victim, especially the more violent and brutal crimes. For this reason, police will quickly home in on the relationships of the victim, looking a friends, family, acquaintances and current and former partners. While this is simply standard operating procedure for the police, it can be hurtful for those concerned as many close friends and family will be considered as potential suspects.

If you are concerned with the actions of someone you know then you need to be wary, as too often these actions go unreported and result in a tragic crime. You do not have to report it to the police, but it may be a good idea to talk to other people, make them aware of the situation and, maybe, talk to the person concerned. No matter what, you need to exercise caution.

For more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit http://www.ambushsecurity.com.au.

Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Criminal’s Rules: Relationships is a post from Ambush SecurityFor more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit Ambush Security.Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Careful who you hire to help around the house

blog

Hiring people to help around the home can be a great idea, it can free you up to spend more time with your family, focus on your job and do more of those hobbies that you have been wanting to … Continue reading →

Careful who you hire to help around the house is a post from Ambush SecurityFor more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit Ambush Security.Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Hiring people to help around the home can be a great idea, it can free you up to spend more time with your family, focus on your job and do more of those hobbies that you have been wanting to try for years. Choosing the right people is important, as having people work in or around your home is a risk. You are bringing them into your sanctuary and you need to be sure that you can trust them, as no matter how careful and cautious you are, at some point, trust will come into it.

There are a number of ways to check out potential or new employees. Obviously doing background checks is important, calling former employers and checking up on the references provided. You can also call the police and find out if they have a record.

Another excellent way of ensuring that your employees are trustworthy is installing cameras in your home. Be careful when doing this as there are privacy rules that you must follow, but this is a proven method of ensuring your employees act with probity. In most states you must tell employees they are being filmed, which is actually a good thing, as it means they will be wary of their actions at all times.

For more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit http://www.ambushsecurity.com.au.

Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Home security tip #5: Fort Knox

blog

Home security is something that we can all improve on, it is an area that we all need to take charge in. Life is random, we never know what is around the next corner, we never know what might happen tomorrow. That is why it is important to protect ourselves from risk, so that the only surprise we get are good ones. All it takes is a little knowledge and a little forethought and you can drastically improve your security and your peace of mind. In this series we will provide a number of home security tips to help keep you and everything you treasure safe and secure. Here is the five:

Fort Knox. Everyone has heard of Fort Knox, the legendary US vault. If you want to increase your security then you need to take a leaf from their book and put solid locks on every single entrance point to your home, even second story windows. You need to make sure that the frames and jambs are up to it as well, so if these are not strong enough, beef them up with steel rims or new wood. Burglars want easy targets and if your house is just a bit more difficult than the average to break into, they will give up and go somewhere else. Use their laziness and cowardice against them, make it hard to break in and they’ll pack it in and go somewhere else.

For more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit http://www.ambushsecurity.com.au.

Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Home security tip #5: Fort Knox is a post from Ambush SecurityFor more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit Ambush Security.Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Home security tip #4: Let there be light

blog

Home security is something that we can all improve on, it is an area that we all need to take charge in. That is why it is important to protect ourselves from risk, so that the only surprise we get are good ones. All it takes is a little knowledge and a little forethought and you can drastically improve your security and your peace of mind. In this series we will provide a number of home security tips to help keep you and everything you treasure safe and secure. Here is the fourth:

Let there be light. Burglars love to do their work in the shadows, the less light the better. The last thing they want is for people to be able to see what they are doing as this increases the chances of them getting caught and if there is one thing that every criminal hates, it is getting caught. This is why it is important that you have good security lighting around your home, lighting that has sensors so that it will turn on when there is movement. Light is your friend and the burglar’s enemy, you can never have too much of it. Make it so that the exterior of your house is bathed in light as soon as anyone steps foot on your property and you will increase your security tenfold.

For more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit http://www.ambushsecurity.com.au.

Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.

Home security tip #4: Let there be light is a post from Ambush SecurityFor more information about Alarms, CCTV, Security Systems and Devices, visit Ambush Security.Ambush Security is a security company servicing Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine coast in Queensland, Australia.
